What Are Calphalon Pans?
Calphalon pans are a brand of cookware founded in the sixties under the name Commercial Aluminum Cookware. Originally the company made professional cookware products for the restaurant and food industries. However, after launching their original line of hard-anodised aluminium cookware, they soon began to expand to supplying cooking schools and department stores. Finally, in the nineties, they changed their name to Calphalon after their flagship line of products.
The reason for their success was their line of hard anodised aluminium cookware sets. These were a game-changer when introduced to the market. They were some of the first aluminium cookware sets that came close to being as durable as stainless steel and cast iron cookware.
Nowadays the Calaphon range has expanded to include Calphalon cast iron and Calphalon stainless steel cookware, along with hard anodised aluminium cookware with a non-stick coating. Additionally, they have a variety of different product lines such as Simply Calphalon and Calphalon Classic. On the surface may seem quite similar to an untrained eye such as with simply Calphalon and Calphalon Classic.
Further confusing matters here is the fact that each range often comes in different material options. Examples of such include Calphalon Classic Stainless Steel and Calphalon Classic Nonstick.
As a result, the answer to the question of how oven-safe Calphalon pots and pans are is quite complex. This is because even if multiple Calphalon pans are oven safe, the temperatures they can go in the oven at may drastically differ. Additionally, there’s also the question, are Calphalon lids oven-safe?
How Do I Know If My Pan Is Oven-Safe?
On many oven-safe pans, there will be a symbol on the underside of the pan denoting whether it is safe to go in the oven, along with what temperatures it will be oven-safe at. This isn’t always the case, however.
There are a couple of good rules of thumb if you are not sure whether your pans are oven-safe or not. If your pans are made from Stainless Steel, Cast Iron or Copper, they will be oven safe. Ceramic pans are also somewhat oven safe but only at a lower oven temperature. Most nonstick pots and pans, along with those plastic handles aren’t oven-safe. However, there are some exceptions to this rule.
Are Calphalon Pans Oven Safe?

Will A Calphalon Tempered Glass Lid Be Oven Safe?
Calphalon’s product range of pots and pans may be oven-safe for the most part. However, can the same be said for Calphalon Tempered Glass Lids?
Surprisingly enough, the answer is in fact yes. This is because the Calphalon lids aren’t just made from normal glass. Instead, the Calphalon cookware lines all come with a tempered glass lid for each applicable pot and pan.
However, you may be wondering what temperatures these lids can handle. Across the board, the answer is 450 Degrees Fahrenheit. Whilst, this is more than enough for something Simply Calphalon and perfect for Calphalon Classic, unfortunately, this means that higher tier pans may not be used to their full potential.
What are the different types of Calphalon Cookware?
Calphalon has a wide range of different cookware sets. Due to the sheer amount, there is sometimes difficulty in discerning some from others.
Simply put, of the available cookware sets available from Calphalon there are three tiers of expense, quality and versatility. Despite this though, as mentioned above, all Calphalon cookware sets will come with the same lids.
The cheapest Calphalon cookware options available are Select By Calphalon and Simply Calphalon. These editions are available in both nonstick coated hard anodised aluminium and stainless steel variants. However, unlike some of the more expensive options, they are made from quite thin pieces of metal and have plastic handles.
The mid-range option is Calphalon Classic. This cookware set is made from thicker intermediate grade hard anodised aluminium or stainless steel. As a result, it can handle higher temperatures and is generally more durable than the cheaper options. Like those options, however, it still uses plastic handles.
A half step up from Calphalon Classic is Calphalon Premier. These have stainless steel handles as opposed to plastic ones, making them more likely to be broiler safe. Additionally, they are somewhat more durable than Calphalon Classic. Despite this, however, they can not withstand higher temperatures than the Classic line.
The top of the line Calphalon cookware line is Calphalon Signature. These pans, like the prior options, are available in stainless steel and non-stick hard anodised aluminium. Like the Premier set, they also have stainless steel handles instead of plastic. Unlike the Premier set, however, the Signature collection can withstand higher temperatures in the oven.

Precautions When Cooking With Calphalon in the Oven
When cooking in the oven with Calphalon pots and pans, or indeed any brand, it’s important to take certain precautions. Doing so will prevent damage from occurring to both your pans and your oven. In order to be able to get years of use and enjoyment from your Calphalon pans makes sure to adhere to the following:
- Ensure you never overheat your pans. Doing so can warp their shape and if they have plastic handles cause them to melt. Additionally, overheating nonstick pans can cause the surface to begin melting which can release toxic gases.
- Avoid sudden temperature changes. Sudden temperature changes may cause your cookware to expand or constrict rapidly in uneven ways. This can result in permanent warping.
- Keep an eye on your panhandles. Whilst both the plastic and stainless steel pan handles are designed to be oven safe it is always wise to be careful when handling them. As such it is always recommended to use oven gloves and both hands when transferring these pots and pans to and from the oven.
- Whilst many of these pans are oven safe, this doesn’t necessarily make Calphalon pans broiler safe. Particularly, you should be cautious when broiling with pans that have a nonstick surface and/or plastic handles. Watch the broiler carefully and avoid using it for more than ten minutes at a time.
Are all Calphalon Pans Oven-Safe?
The vast majority of Calphalon pans are oven-safe but not all. Oven-safe pans will be denoted as such on the underside of the pan. So if there isn’t an indicator there then the pan is probably not oven safe.
Can I put a Calphalon Classic pan in the oven?
Calphalon Classic pans are safe in the oven up to 450 Degrees Fahrenheit. Any temperatures higher than this however will likely damage the pan. Additionally, if the nonstick surface of the pan is overheated, it may release fumes that can make you ill.
Can Calphalon Pans With Rubber Handles Go In The Oven?
Calphalon pans with rubber handles can go in the oven. However, they should only be heated to the recommended temperature for the cookware set it belongs to. Additionally, a close eye should be kept on the pan whilst in the oven to ensure it is not overheating.
