Best Gas Grills Under $300 – Buyers Guide

What is Good About a Gas Grill?

Gas grills are easier to control than charcoal. They start up quickly and heat up in around 10 minutes whereas it can take much longer on a charcoal grill. They hold a stable temperature but can be made hotter or cooler with just a turn of the knob. If you are cooking different items like vegetables and meat, they can be cooked at the same time if you have more than one burner. You can keep one burner up high for the meat and much lower for the vegetables. It would be difficult to do this on a charcoal grill.

It is easier to clean a gas grill than a charcoal one as you don’t have to deal with ash. In addition, most drops are vaporized. Some gas grills do come with a drip tray, so it is easy to remove. The only disadvantage is that the burners can get carbon and grease build-ups underneath the burners which do need to be cleaned every couple of months or so, depending on how often you use the grill. You can either scrape it away or use a pressure washer.

Gas grills often come with accessories like side tables to store your plates and utensils, storage drawers, built-in thermometers, and bottle openers. Some even come with a rotisserie kit.

Some people say that meat tastes better cooked on a charcoal grill. This can be true if you are cooking something like steaks because charcoal grills produce more direct infrared heat and higher temperatures, even up to 900F. A reasonably priced gas grill will probably only heat up to 500F. However, if you’re not searing your meat, you won’t need such high temperatures. Generally, you need 225F – 325F to cook most things.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please feel free to ask us any questions you want regarding gas grill. We have tried to answer a couple here.

Are gas grills more expensive than charcoal?

Yes, they are usually more expensive than charcoal or wood pellets. This is because they have more complicated mechanisms. It does also mean that there could be more to go wrong. Check how many gas grills made our list of under $500 grills and how many are on our pick of the grill for less than $300.

Do you get a particularly nice smoky flavor with a charcoal grill and not with a gas grill?

People do comment on this, but you can create smoke by adding wood pellets to your gas grill. Some gas grills even come with a wood pellet smoker attached
